Because I anticipate that I may get the same sort of response this time, if you are interested in any of these PCs, you should reply as follows: List of PCs you are DEFINITELY INTERESTED IN PURCHASING, rank ordered from most interested to least. Only list the PCs you would buy if available. I will allocate to each person the first PC on their list that has not already been claimed by an earlier email. If you are interested in buying more than one PC, please indicate that, too. In fairness to others, I will take your list as a committment to buy one of the PCs on the list if it is available. You can feel free to ask questions in your email, but an email with a committed list will take precedence so you may miss out, particularly on the cheaper PCs. NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE NOTE --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A Dell factory refurbished PC can be one of two things: Either a customer return/refusal that has never been opened (in my experience about 75% of the PCs designated as "refurbished") or else a PC that has been gone over with a fine tooth comb by Dell and recertified. In either case, the PC will look and work as new. Most of these were purchased for projects that have since gone by the wayside and I am clearing them out at prices you will not be able to beat anywhere else. I sold a bunch of these on this list a couple of months ago, and I think everyone was quite pleased with what they got and the prices. I am listing the PCs I have for sale below. I have several classes of PCs. The Dimension 2400 PCs are Dell's entry level PCs. These are good basic PCs, perfectly adequate for normal office/word processing/ surfing purposes, and all have more-than-adequate processors. The 4600c PCs are REALLY nifty small-form-factor PCs. These PCs are a bit bigger than a big phone book and are very quiet. These are a very elegant solution if space is an issue, or if you are concerned with the aesthetics of your PC. These are also a steal at the prices I am offering them (check Dell's website; they sell for around $1000 and up!) All PCs feature: Windows XP home operating system and built-in 10/100 ethernet. All PCs come with a keyboard and a mouse. All computers come with a set of restore CDs that will allow you to reinstall the operating system and applications if necesary. All but the laptop feature a bunch of USB 2.0 connectors. All have sound and video. Most have a floppy drive, but check the specs as a few do not. (Floppy drive is now an option on Dell PCs, because most people don't use/need them anymore). (Laptops do not have built in floppy drives). Most have a 56K modem, but a few do not. For those that do not, there are slots in the PC where you can add one easily. None comes with Microsoft Office (Word, etc.) You will need to buy that separately (same deal as if you were to buy the PCs directly from Dell). Most come with the Wordperfect office suite. Some come with speakers, either Altec Lansing ADA215 or Harman Kardon HK206. This is noted in the specs below. For the ones that don't come with speakers, any standard PC speakers will work. Check the PCs carefully to see what optical drive (CDrom, DVDrom, CDburner, DVDburner) they have, as well as the size and speed of the hard drive. These vary. At least one PC has a DVD burner for those who want to upgrade to the latest and greatest. A "CDrom" is merely a cD READER. A "DVDrom" is a DVD READER. A "CDRW" is a CD burner. A "DVD+RW" is a DVD burner. A CDRW can read and write CDs. A DVD+RW can read and write both CDs and DVDs. All DELL PCs come with a TRANSFERABLE WARRANTY FROM DELL. I have listed in the specs for each PC the date on which the warranty ends. As you can see, some of these warranties still have almost a year left on them. ---- The following computers are NOT intended for typical home users. If you are looking for a PC to plug in and run, the following are not for you. But others can read on to find some great deals: Gateway 6400 server PCs. BRAND NEW. ----------------------- They come with one P3 933Mhz processor (flip chip) and are DUAL PROCESSOR capable (just need a second processor). They use the terrific ServerWorks ServerSet III LE chipset. They come with dual-channel Ultra 160 SCSI, a 9Gb 7200rpm SCSI drive, (2) 64-bit and (5) 32-bit PCI slots, integrated on-board video, integrated 10/100 ethernet, mod-tower case with 9 drive bays. 64 or 128mb of memory, floppy, no operating system. These are brand new in the box, as they were shipped by Gateway. This is not a good choice for a home PC. But it is a nice server. I have several of these, either in factory sealed unopened boxes or else in boxes that were opened and unpacked (briefly, to check components) but PC was never used. These are BRAND NEW, NOT refurbished. $300/each. $320 each if you take 2 or more. Or take all I have (I think I have 5-6) for $300/each. Here is a support URL at Gateway: http://support.gateway.com/s/Servers/COMPO/Cases/3500962/3500962nv.shtml Intel SC450NX 4-way Xeon server computers. ----------------------------------------- These are server class platforms that support FOUR Xeon processors and up to 4Gb of memory, 8 hot swappable SCSI drive bays, THREE redundant power supplies. Comes with all required parts (all VRMS, all drive sleds, power cables, etc.) These boxes have 11 fans. Received factory refurbished from Intel a while back, never used. Do not come with memory or processors or hard drives (exactly as they were supplied by Intel). If you don't know what these are, you don't need one. If you do, you may recognize these as a bargain for server apps. I have several of these. $300/each. (Any other 4 processor capable solution will cost you many thousands more).
