This is auction is for a superb collection of STILL SEALED quadraphonic 8-track tapes. Sometimes you'll find a group of 2 or 3 sealed quad tapes...but 21 of them? The last time you saw 21 SEALED quad 8-tracks was probably about 30 years ago, when these were (briefly) available in retail stores.

Yup, nearly a third of century has passed since the 8-tracks you're bidding on here were made. Quad was the original surround sound. From the early to mid '70s, the record companies tried to get people to embrace quadraphonic (4 channel) sound. But due to a number of factors, quad was a relative failure in the marketplace. As a result, most quad titles were produced in relatively small numbers. That means that the titles in this auction, even if they were opened, would be collectable.

But these are not opened. Nope, these are sealed. If you know anything about the tape format, you know that means a WORLD of difference. From the minute a tape is used, it starts to deteriorate. It deteriorates a bit more on each play. If the tape is also used in harsh environments like cars (which many quad tapes were), or is stored in harsh environments (which many 8-track tapes have been) it will only hasten the deterioriation. If you are really interested in getting the best sound, you want to start with a virgin, unopened copy of the tape. That's what I'm offering you in this auction.

Why must there always be rules? Don't ask me, ask your philosophy professor. But here be my rules for this auction. Read them, learn them, love them. There will be a test on Tuesday. Slide rules will be permitted.
  1. Items guaranteed as described. 8-tracks are all factory sealed. Most 8-tracks have a cutout mark on the spine. Some 8-tracks have small tears in the factory seal plastic. No warranty whatsoever is provided with respect to the playability of the 8-tracks. They are sold as described but otherwise as-is.
  2. Buyer agrees to commence payment within 3 days of winning the auction. You may pay by PayPal  (preferred) or else money order.
  3. Fixed rate shipping applies to sales within the Continental US. Sales outside the Continental US must contact me first for shipping costs.
  4. Any problems must be noted within three days of receiving merchandise.

Note that most of these 8-tracks were cutouts, and have cutout markings on the spine (either a small drill hole or a shallow saw cut). You can see the markings in the spine photo below. Also, on a few there may be small rips in the sealing plastic (from normal handling and 30 years!) But this remains a beautiful set and a great way to introduce yourself to the original surround sound, quadraphonic!

Also note that because these 8-tracks are so old, I cannot make any warranty as to their playability. Some of these may require replacement of the pressure pads and or the sensor tape before play. That's the case with ANY 8-track tape. At least with these SEALED tapes you know that the tape itself hasn't been damaged in any way by improper use!
